Two Warranties, Two Different Jobs.
The common mix-up is assuming a “10-year warranty” means the whole car is covered for ten years. It doesn’t. Kia stacks broad coverage over the first five years with long coverage on the parts that would cost the most to replace.
5-Year / 60,000-Mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty
The broad one — you will also hear it called the basic or bumper-to-bumper warranty. It covers most vehicle components and systems for 60 months or 60,000 miles from the date of first service, whichever comes first, against defects in workmanship or materials.2

10-Year / 100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty
Narrower coverage, double the duration. It starts the moment the 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty runs out and continues to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the date of first service, covering the engine, transmission, axles, differentials, and propeller shafts — including internal parts, seals, gaskets, and key assemblies. Available to the original purchaser and to the purchaser of a Kia Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.1

5-Yr / 100k-Mi Anti-Perforation
Covers rust and corrosion that perforates a panel from the inside out because of a factory defect. Surface rust and stone chips are a different thing entirely and are not included.2
5-Yr / 60k-Mi Roadside Assistance
Towing to the nearest authorized Kia dealer for a warranty-related disablement, plus out-of-gas, flat tire, jump start, and lock-out assistance — starting the day the vehicle is delivered.3
Trip Interruption Policy
A warranty-related breakdown more than 150 miles from home that takes over 24 hours to fix triggers reimbursement for reasonable meals, lodging, or a rental — up to $100 per day for three days, per incident.3
Safety Recalls Are Separate
A safety recall is not warranty work and carries no age or mileage limit — the repair is free no matter how old the Kia is or who sold it. Check your VIN for open recalls.

EV System Warranty — 10 Years / 100,000 Miles
Covers the core of the electric drivetrain for 10 years or 100,000 miles from the date of first service, whichever comes first:
- Electric motor
- High voltage battery
- Electric power control unit (EPCU)
- On-board charger (OBC)
Capacity, not just failure
EV Battery Coverage — the 70% Threshold
The pack does not have to die to be covered. If capacity falls below 70% of original inside 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, repair or replacement brings it back to at least 70%.4

How long is the Kia warranty?⌄
A new Kia carries two core warranties: a 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty (the basic or bumper-to-bumper warranty) and a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, whichever comes first in each case. Added to those are a 5-year/100,000-mile Limited Anti-Perforation Warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile Roadside Assistance. Is the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty transferable to a second owner?⌄
The 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is available to the original purchaser and to the purchaser of a Kia Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. Buying a used Kia that is not Certified Pre-Owned? Do not assume the full 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain term travels with it. The parts that move the car: the engine, transmission, axles, differentials, and propeller shafts, including internal parts, seals, gaskets, and key assemblies. It begins when the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires and runs to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the date of first service, whichever comes first. It is not a maintenance plan — brake pads, wiper blades, and tires are wear items, not powertrain components.
What is the difference between the basic and powertrain warranty?⌄
The 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty is wide — most components and systems, against defects in workmanship or materials. The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty is narrow but long, protecting the engine, transmission, and drive components only. Wide first, then deep on the expensive parts.
Do I have to service at a Kia dealer to keep my warranty?⌄

Separately, EV Battery Coverage handles capacity loss: if the battery drops below 70% of its original capacity within 10 years or 100,000 miles, repair or replacement restores it to at least 70%. What is roadside assistance and the trip interruption policy?⌄
Roadside Assistance runs 5 years/60,000 miles from delivery and includes towing to the nearest authorized Kia dealer for a warranty-related disablement, plus out-of-gas, flat tire, jump start, and lock-out assistance. If a warranty-related breakdown happens more than 150 miles from home and the repair takes more than 24 hours, the Trip Interruption Policy reimburses reasonable meals, lodging, or rental car costs — up to $100 per day for three days, per incident.
Does rust damage count as a warranty repair?⌄
The 5-year/100,000-mile Limited Anti-Perforation Warranty covers perforation — rust that eats all the way through a body panel from the inside out — caused by a factory defect. Surface rust, paint chips, and corrosion from stone damage or an unrepaired accident are not covered. In south Mississippi humidity, keeping the drainage channels along the doors and rockers clear is a cheap habit worth keeping.
Is a safety recall the same as a warranty repair?⌄
No — and the distinction is worth knowing. A safety recall is repaired free of charge regardless of the vehicle’s age, mileage, warranty status, or where it was bought, and a recall remedy does not expire. Warranty coverage, by contrast, is bounded by the terms above. Run your VIN against the federal recall database to check for open campaigns.
